I didn't say the other weren't classics, just not on the same level. Zero Mission is the tightest 2D Metroid in terms of controls to this day, and it's a great reimagining of the original. The graphics, the soundtrack, the new mechanics made it memorable and gave it enough to make it feel like Super Metroid but also gave it it's own personality.
